ORPE employs a new design of conversion of a progressive piston
stroke into rotary motion of an elliptical shaped rotor and vice versa. This constructive solution provides unprecedented weight & fuel consumption/power output ratio, demonstrating definite advantages over all contemporary utilized engines, including Wankel rotor engine. Absence of the crankshaft minimizes the power losses caused in other engines’ by friction, side-forces and vibrations. With regard to the operating cycle within the ORPE, it corresponds to a two-stroke engine with two pistons in one cylinder, moving from the opposite directions, and with an inflow going through the intake and exhaust ports. The ORPE two-stroke cycle is fulfilled for a half-turn of rotor. Thus improving the mechanical efficiency (calculated at 95%, compared to 80% in currently manufactured engines – hence 45% fuel saving). |
